CBD was administered to 11 persons with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in an outpatient psychiatric clinic for eight weeks in a small 2018 study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine showed 10 of the 11 patients had their PTSD symptoms reduced as a result of CBD treatment.

CBD may help treat post-traumatic stress disorder by decreasing symptoms in six animal studies from 2012 to 2016. However, some of them include THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, the main mind-altering component in cannabis.

Further study is needed to confirm these early results.

In both animal and human clinical trials, studies suggest CBD could help cure people hooked on opioids, cigarettes, or even normal high THC cannabis usage.

CBD has been shown to help heroin users quit the habit. In one such experiment, researchers gave CBD to individuals with a heroin use disorder. CBD significantly reduced cue-induced yearnings for drugs, trepidation during withdrawal, and resting heart rate and cortisol levels over a week. No significant adverse effects were discovered.
